Authorities with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration have seized a huge shipment of drugs that would have eventually made its way onto the streets of Calgary and Edmonton

Eariler this week, the DEA seized nearly 5,000 kilograms of marijuana and 30 kilograms of cocaine in a shipment destined for Grassy Lake.

Seven people, all but one members of a Mexican Mennonite community with direct ties with the Juarez drug cartel, have been charged in connection with the bust.

Their names have not been released.

Police say the drugs would have likely ended up on the streets of the bigger cities in Alberta, including Calgary and Edmonton.
