Some of Alberta’s most elite teenage soccer players can be found at the Regional Performance Centre.

Camilla Shymka, 15, is among them and the former figure skater picked up the game just five years ago.

“I started with community and then I moved to Blizzard and then from there I went and played Southwest United,” said Camilla. “My brother always played soccer and I would always train with him and he made me love the game and I practiced a lot and I just loved it so I just decided I would give it a shot and it's worked out for me.”

“She's quick, she's aggressive, she can score goals. She's totally opposite of what we’ve produced in the past in regards to players and we've produced a lot of good defensive players she's a player that can go forward and score goals and create stuff,” said Shaun Lowther from the Alberta Soccer Association.

The talented striker has already received interest from Canadian and American universities.

“A lot of my friends say I play way too much but I have RPC four times a week and then club about four times a week as well so I’m playing a lot of soccer but I love it,” said Camilla. “Soccer has given me. like everything, it’s like my life. I love it I have so many friends now and just the opportunity to play at a high level I love that.”

Congratulations Camilla Shymka, you are the CTV Calgary Athlete of the Week.
