The Calgary Veteran’s Food Bank kicked off its annual food drive on Sunday, November 01, 2015. The campaign helps not only veterans who served in the Second World War, but also soldiers recently returning from Afghanistan.

Donations of food, toiletries and pet food make up the hampers that go out to veterans in need. Cash donations go toward purchasing Calgary Co-op food gift cards.

John Cumming of Crown Surplus said times are particularly tough this year.

“They are not getting the donations that they used to get from the bigger corporations because those corporations are downsizing in a lot of areas" said Cumming. "So this year, I think it’s really important for the average person if they can help out in any way possible.”

Food donations can dropped off at Crown Surplus in Inglewood at 1005 11 St SE. Financial donations can be made to Calgary Poppy Fund.
