At least one of the five people who were arrested by Sundre RCMP and charged with mischief in connection to the culling of wild horses has returned to the protest site.

June Burrows, one of the five people arrested, says she has every right to be there.

Burrows says she and her fellow protesters were simply monitoring the traps and not interfering with the cull.

She claims that they are further away from the corral now and doesn’t expect to be arrested, but she is prepared if it comes to that.

“Yeah, I’ll put myself at risk. I’ll be here if my company sitting here by the fire is going to help the horses, I’ll do it,” Burrows said.

Police say that the five people, three women and two men, were arrested on February 25 for entering a site where a wild horse cull was taking place.

They say the individuals were warned not enter the capture area prior to their arrest.

They were released on Wednesday on the promise to appear in court on March 31, and on condition that they not return to the capture site or have contact with the capture licence holder.

The protesters are also using other methods to prevent the cull, such as placing hay about 3 km east of the traps in order to attempt to lure the horses away.

Sundre is located approximately 25 minutes west of Olds, Alberta, between Calgary and Red Deer.
