Alberta’s Official Opposition is betting that Premier Jim Prentice will be calling an election sooner rather than later, and they say that’s changing their plans when it comes to choosing a new leader.

The party announced that they would be moving up the scheduled date for their leadership vote, in a decision from the party executive over the weekend.

Heather Forsyth has been leading the party since Danielle Smith crossed the floor to the PCs in December of last year.

The original date for a leadership vote was set for June.

Party president Jeff Callaway says there are some details to iron out, but they expect to make an announcement revealing the new date later on Monday.
