A 19-year-old woman passed away Sunday morning in a Calgary hospital bed after suffering severe injuries in Brooks days earlier.
According to the Brooks RCMP detachment, the deceased has been identified as Tanya Campbell-Losier.
RCMP and EMS were called to a home in Brooks at approximately 4:00 a.m. Friday following reports of a severely injured woman. Campbell-Losier was transported by ambulance to hospital in Calgary.
Jessie Dyck, a 26-year-old man from Brooks, was arrested in connection with the attack on Campbell-Losier and charged with aggravated assault.
Dyck is scheduled to appear in Brooks Provincial Court via CCTV on Monday. The Calgary Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy into Campbell-Losier’s death early this week.
RCMP Media Relations Officer Corporal Laurel Scott says the RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident and the possibility of upgraded charges against Dyck.
“They may change,” said Cpl. Scott. ‘We will wait for the results of the autopsy.”
RCMP have not disclosed the relationship between the accused and the deceased, but Cpl. Scott confirms Dyck and Campbell-Losier did know one another.
“This is an isolated incident. We’re not seeking any other suspects on this.”
The City of Brooks is located approximately 175 kilometres southeast of Calgary along the Trans-Canada Highway.
