The Calgary Police Homicide Unit are scouring the scene after the discovery of a woman's body in the city's southeast.

EMS confirmed the body's gender just after 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

The body was found just before noon on Monday by a man walking his dog in Fish Creek Park inside the north entrance of the park near to Bow Bottom Trail.

Details are still sketchy, and police are unable to confirm the sex of the victim, but investigators say the body appears to have been there for some time.

An autopsy will be held but may not happen until late on Wednesday.
