Police are investigating a suspicious death in an industrial area of southeast Calgary.

A body was discovered among some trailers behind a party supply business late Saturday afternoon by someone out on a walk.

In the Ramsay neighbourhood near where the body was found, resident Myles Arrowsmith was surprised, but admits the area doesn't have the best reputation.

"Shocking in a way, but in a way it's not because there is a lot of homeless people picking bottles here and up and down the streets and with the cold weather lately, I mean, it hasn't been that cold, but it's still shocking."

The area where the body was found is frequented by people who police say have high risk lifestyles. It is a stroll where prostitution takes place. It's also an area where drugs are bought, sold and used.

So far, the cause of death hasn't been determined and police have not released whether the body is that of a man or a woman.

Resident Cindy Spooner is waiting for answers.

"I want to know who it is and see if I know her or him, because I know a lot of people around here. It's upsetting."

Homicide detectives are assisting in the investigation and are treating the death as suspicious until the Medical Examiner's Office determines the cause of death.
