A Calgary radio station has announced the winner of a controversial contest and awarded the grand prize to a transgendered person.
90.3 AMP Radio launched the "Breast Summer Ever" contest earlier this summer.
Contestants vied for online votes to win the grand prize of a $10,000 breast augmentation.
Among the hundreds of applicants were women who weren't satisfied with their figures and breast cancer survivors.
The station waded through the applicants and narrowed the field down to 10 finalists.
The final 10 were posted on the station's website, by first name only, and the public voted for a winner.
On Wednesday, AMP announced Avery, contestant #4, as the winner.
Avery was born male and is trying to become a woman.
She says the procedure will help complete her as a person.
"I am changing my sex. It is a difficult process. It is also very expensive. Entering this competition and winning has helped me to such an extent I can't even explain it," said Avery.
Avery won by a landslide, capturing 76 percent of the votes.
