Calgary police are investigating a fatal Friday evening crash near Erin Woods which killed an 11-year-old girl and sent three adults, including the child's parents, to hospital.

The crash happened at about 6:35 p.m. at the intersection of 52 St. and Erin Woods Dr. S.E.

Police say two vehicles, a minivan and a pickup truck, collided in the intersection. Witnesses say the pickup trup was travelling at a high rate of speed and entered the intersection while the traffic light was red.

According to police, the young girl was thrown from the vehicle and was killed on impact. The 11-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Her parents were taken to hospital by EMS in serious condition.

A man, believed to be in his 20s, was driving the pickup. He was also transported to hospital in serious condition.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Sections of Erin Woods Dr. and 52 St. were closed for several hours.
