The City of Calgary has called a snow route parking ban for the third time this year and is asking all residents who park on designated snow routes to move their vehicles.

The snow route parking ban went into effect on March 4, at 10:00 a.m.

Officials say the ban will help snowplows clear Priority 2 routes efficiently and effectively.

All vehicles that are parked in the snow routes, marked by blue snowflake signs, must be moved for the duration of the ban that may last up to 72 hours unless the city calls it off earlier.

Anyone who fails to move their vehicle could be ticketed and towed. The fine associated with violating the ban is $75.

Officials say the parking restriction benefits all Calgarians and makes winter travel a lot safer for everyone on the road.

Calgarians are digging out their vehicles and clearing sidewalks and Brian Moon, who owns two homes in the city, says he's been busy shovelling.

"I have two houses, so I woke up early and shoveled the house on the west side and then came here to shovel again. I'm shovelling all day."

He says that he's been here for about 10 years and has never seen a winter like this before.

Chris Hunter, who has been in the city for 35 years, says he's never experienced as bad a winter as this before.

"I don't recall one like this. Usually in Calgary we'll get weather like this and two weeks later it's all gone but that just hasn't been the issue with this year."

He hopes that this is the end of the snowfall for the season. "I think earlier this week we've been seeing some signs of Spring, and then this showed up. Hopefully this is just one last kick and this would be it."

Not everyone is disappointed in seeing the fresh snowfall. Jennifer Brusse says it's great to see.

"I know everyone is getting fed up with it but I think it's fun. It's good to get some skiing, the powder would be amazing today. This afternoon I'll try some cross country skiing."
