One of the city’s busiest pedestrian thoroughfares will take to the sky in 2017 as the city has released its detailed design for an elevated walkway in the area between Chinook Centre and the Chinook LRT station.

Construction of the 61 Avenue Southwest pedestrian bridge is scheduled to begin in September 2016 with an estimated date for completion in late 2017.

According to city officials, the project’s $13 million price tag will be shared evenly between the City of Calgary and the owners of CF Chinook Centre, the Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd.

Once complete, a private extension of the bridge will connect with the mall’s second floor. Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd. will be responsible for the cost of the extension.
