The Calgary Police Victim Assistance Support Team and a number of local agencies are hosting a community forum to help people deal with the deaths of 15 people in a bus crash in Saskatchewan on Friday evening.
The Humboldt Broncos were on their way to a playoff game in Nipawin when the bus carrying the team collided with a semi tractor-trailer unit.
The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 335, about 30 kilometres north of Tisdale, and killed 15 people on the bus and sent another 14 to hospital.
People across the country have been affected by the event and many are struggling to deal with the tragedy.
Calgary police and several local agencies that specialize in trauma will host a support session for anyone who is experiencing distress.
The meeting is not intended to provide counselling but will cover the following topics:
- How incidents like Humboldt can impact people
- How different people process traumatic experiences
- How to manage vicarious trauma of exposure to social media
- How a person can work through these experiences in a healthy way
The Humboldt Community Forum is free and will take place at Calgary Police Service Headquarters, located at 5111 47 St. N.E., on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
