The city released the annual civic census numbers on Thursday and the population is steadily increasing. Calgary has a population of 1,149,552 as of April 2013.
The census numbers show an increase of 29,327 from April 2012 to April of this year.
The population in Calgary grew by 2.62 percent in the last year.
“Accurate census information is essential in decision making and planning for the city’s future needs” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi.
Federal and provincial grant money is based on the city’s population so an accurate yearly assessment is important to city coffers.
The community that saw the most growth was Evanston, with 1,680 new residents moving in over the past year.
