A week of frustration and uncertainty has concluded for some former customers of Sunridge RV as the first wave of trailers and fifth wheels have been removed from the dealership’s lot.

Earlier this month, Sunridge RV declared bankruptcy and its locations in Crossfield and Airdrie were closed with little notice.

A small group of RV owners gathered at the gates of the Sunridge RV location in Crossfield, Alberta late Sunday morning in the hopes of retrieving their vehicles.

Tim and Jamie Guitar made the 10 hour trip from Fort McMurray to retrieve the trailer they bought in November and left with the dealership for winter storage.

“We called to come pick it up and (found) out they’re bankrupt,” said Tim Guitar of what prompted the excursion.

“We do work shiftwork, it’s hard for us to get up here,” said Jamie Guitar who drove from Fort McMurray. “We’re hoping we don’t have to come back up again to pick it up. We would like to leave with it today.”

Calgarian Donald Chappel waited alongside the Guitars wondering if he would be able to tow his trailer home.

“I took my RV in for maintenance,” said Chappel. “They called me and said it was ready so I asked them if I could leave it there for two weeks because I was busy at work. They said ‘no problem, we’ve got lots of room’.”

Early Sunday afternoon, a trustee unlocked the gates and the rightful owners of the trailers were allowed onto the property.

“Relieved that we won’t have to do the trek back down,” said Tim Guitar of his reunion with his RV. “We’ll be able to leave with it today we just have some paperwork to figure out.”

Mark Roseneder was united with his newly purchased trailer for the first time. He had originally planned to pick up his RV nine days earlier.

“It looks like it’s had some work done to it and our hitch is in it so today we go home,” said Roseneder.

Not all customers were pleased with Sunday’s outcome. A number of the roughly 270 trailers on the lot had sustained damage while others remained in the shop after being dismantled.

The owner of Sunridge RV has not responded to CTV Calgary’s requests for comment.
