Police are using time and technology to their advantage to help solve a ten year old cold case.

Adrienne McColl, 21, disappeared on Valentine's Day ten years ago and was later discovered murdered in a rancher's field three days later.

The police investigation centered around McColl's boyfriend, Stephane Parent.

"They had been together for quite some time. She loved him a lot. I guess that's why I struggle with how he's never been back in the picture since," said Shandi Bard, McColl's best friend.

Parent disappeared when McColl did and never helped in the search, called her family or went to her funeral.

He was considered a person of interest in the case but there was not enough evidence to charge him.

A decade later and police are hoping they have a new lead.

"At the time what we did was established some DNA that we located at the scene so that DNA is going to be compared as well too," said Sgt. Nick Chodyka, RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

Sgt. Chodyka says advances in technology are giving police new hope for a DNA match, either to someone they've investigated or to someone new. "We always hope there's going to be a break in the case."

RCMP expects results from those forensic tests within the next two to three weeks.
