Canada will 150 years young in 2017 and Royal Canadian Mint wants your help to celebrate this important milestone.

If you have an artistic flare, you may have a chance to be part of history.

"My Canada, My Inspiration" is a contest being put on by the Royal Mint.

Here in Calgary, artists put their brushes to work Wednesday night.

The painting competition is being launched to give canucks a chance to design Canadian coins on canvas.

The winning designs will be used on the coins that will go into circulation in 2017, the year of Canada’s 150th Birthday.

Paul Bolt with the Royal Canadian Mint says those taking part should draw on what Canada means to them.

“We’re looking at what inspires people about Canada. So we’re talking about our values, we’re talking about our passions, we’re talking about our achievements. What’s our character?” said Bolt.

The contest includes designs for all the Canadian coins and there is also a category for children to take part in.

The deadline to enter the contest is April 30, 2015

The winners will be announced in 2017.
