An Ontario Pit Bull is getting a new lease on life.

Leo landed at the airport in Calgary Saturday with his owner Jared Mercieda.

Leo was on death row in Oshawa after bylaw officers spotted him without a muzzle - that's a violation of Ontario's Pit Bull ban.

Mercieda is nearly deaf in both ears and says Leo acts as a service dog for him.

He brokered a deal with Oshawa bylaw officers and agreed to leave the province in exchange for sparing the dog's life.

So Mercieda packed up their bags and flew back to the province where he was born.

Mercieda says he had to fight for two months to get Leo back.
