Emergency crews had to brave the freezing temperatures to rescue a man from the Bow River after he fell in while trying to cut across the ice.

Calgary fire crews responded to a 911 call at about 12:35 p.m. Wednesday to rescue a man from the river near Edworthy Park.

The man, in his late forties, was trying to take a short cut northbound over the river ice.

The CFD Aquatics Rescue Team used an inflatable boat to safely approach the man, secure him, and bring him to shore.

No one was injured in the incident but fire officials are reminding citizens about the dangers of walking on ice and are asking Calgarians to stay off of all ice that is not designed and maintained for recreational use.
