Eight teams are in contention for the Stanley Cup and the Calgary Flames are in Anaheim to take on the Ducks for Game One of the Second Round of the NHL playoffs.

The Ducks are the favourites to win the series after sweeping through Winnipeg but the Flames have proven to be a force after taking down Vancouver in six games in Round One.

Jonas Hiller returns to Anaheim after being dumped by the team last year and will start Game One for the Flames. The Ducks will start Frederik Andersen in net.

Hockey analysts say both Hiller and Andersen will have to be stellar in net to hold back the top lines.

The Flames say they will have to play smart to contain players like Getzlaf and Perry.

“It’s never easy against those guys, I think they definitely like to control the puck and make quick plays in the offensive zone and hold on to it, they don’t force much so it’s going to take, whoever’s out there, everybody, including our goalie, five guys and a goalie to try and shut those guys down because they’re going to get their chances and you’ve just got to try and limit them and it’s a big test for our team and that will probably be a big factor on how the series goes,” said Matt Stajan.

“I think the forecheck is big. I think they got some really good puck moving defencemen and it we can get in on that, I think that’s kind of been the M.O. all year is our forecheck and our speed so if we can get in there and limit their skilled D time and try and turn pucks over, I think that will be key and obviously just playing in their end as much as possible,” said Centre Josh Jooris.

“I think they’ve got a similar kind of style but they might skate a little bit better and obviously we’ve got Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler and that’s two solid lines so I think we’re going to have to battle hard and find ways to keep them from producing,” said Sean Monahan.

The players say they will have to limit powerplay opportunities and shut down the Ducks when they have the extra attacker.

“You’ve got to be on your toes, especially in this series, they’ve got obviously a very good powerplay with some high-end skill,” said Flames defender Kris Russell.

The Flames have not won in Anaheim during the regular season since 2004 so they will have to shake that stat if they hope to win the series.

Game one gets underway from the Honda Centre in Anaheim at 8:00 MST
