Charges have been laid against Riverfront Aquariums after hundreds of animals were seized from the northeast business last year.

The humane society seized 333 animals from the facility, at 312 Meridian Road NE, on December 2, 2015, after an investigation was launched into animal neglect.

Last Wednesday, charges were laid under the Animal Protection Act against the aquarium, its Manager, Wayne Woo and owner Michael Chow.

“What is most concerning in this case is the blatant disregard for the basic welfare of the animals in the care of this business,” said Brad Nichols, Senior Manager, Animal Cruelty Investigations.

The Humane Society says Riverfront Aquariums and Wayne Woo also face three separate sets of charges from previous offenses in 2014 and 2015.

The matter is scheduled to go before the court on May 24, 2016.
