Members of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service have arrested and charged a 38-year-old man in connection to Monday evening’s assault in a south side alley that claimed the life of Gifford George Good Dagger.

On August 31, emergency crews responded to the back lane of the 900 block of 17 Street South following reports of an injured, unconscious man.

An EMS crew located and transported 47-year-old Good Dagger to hospital. The beating victim was suffering from severe injuries to his head as well as internal injuries.

Good Dagger’s injuries proved fatal and he passed away in hospital on Tuesday.

Police originally identified two persons of interest in relation to the death after an investigation revealed Good Dagger had been involved in a dispute prior to the fatal assault. The two persons of interest were released without charges.

After additional evidence surfaced, officers attended a Lethbridge hotel and arrested 38-year-old James Gregory Gurney without incident.

Gurney faces one charge of manslaughter and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
