RCMP have confirmed that the body of a man found on the upper area of Castle Mountain is that of missing hiker Michael Hwang.

Ho-Seok (Michael) Hwang, 44, left the city for a hike on Saturday morning at about 8:00 a.m. and was expected to return home later that evening.

When he did not arrive home, his family notified Parks Canada on Sunday morning and a search was initiated .

Crews searched the area by ground and air on the weekend and located Hwang’s car in the Castle Mountain trail head parking lot.

A search and rescue team spotted the man's body from the air and confirmed his identity on Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP say it appears that Hwang was repelling down a rock face and fell to the rocks below.

Parks Canada crews were hampered by high winds on Tuesday so they will have to wait until Wednesday to recover Hwang's body.

The Calgary Medical Examiner will examine the body to determine the exact cause of death.
