RCMP say the alleged attack on a 16-year-old Okotoks girl did not happen as originally reported and that they are not seeking any suspects in the case.

Police were called to a home in the Cimarron Vista area at about 2:00 p.m. on November 18 after a teen said she was attacked by an unknown man as she exited the back door of the residence.

The girl claimed that a man armed with a knife assaulted her and that the offender fled when she fought back.

She had a cut on her neck that required stitches at Alberta Children’s Hospital and police launched an investigation.

On Friday, RCMP announced that the event did not happen as it was originally described.

“This reported situation became magnified as a result of social media” said Corporal Darryl Dawkins of the Okotoks General Investigation Section.  “It is a reminder to the community that the RCMP is committed to and will diligently investigate all complaints and report on them accurately.”

Police say they are not seeking any suspects and the case is now closed.
