Police in Canmore are investigating a suspicious incident in the community and locked down Lawrence Grassi Middle School for a few hours on Tuesday afternoon as a precaution.

RCMP officers were called to 7th Street between 8th Avenue and 5th Avenue at about 12:20 p.m. after a witness reported hearing a ‘pop’ from inside an area residence and noticed a hole in one of the windows.

Police were unable to locate a suspect and locked down the school to ensure the safety of students and staff while they investigated.

An area was also cordoned off to limit access to the public while officers cleared the residence.

Police say they are working to identify and find the suspect and are asking anyone with information to contact Canmore RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
