Alberta's Infrastructure Minister says plans for the summer opening of a new Calgary hospital were optimistic.
The reveal of the new southeast hospital is delayed while a disagreement with City Hall over the legal liability of the hospital's tunnel is resolved.
Officials say these kind of civic disagreements are routine when taking on a mega-project. The hospital's tab is around $1.3 billion.
At the start of 2012, officials' predicted the hospital's operating debut would be either in June or early summer.
Part of the hospital complex will open this fall however. Minister of Infrastructure,Wayne Drysdale says the South Calgary Health campus' neurosciences and academic family medicine clinics will open sometime between September and December.
The health authority also hopes to have the hospital's emergency department open by this winter.
When the mega-complex is fully operational, it will be Calgary's fourth hospital, and the largest in Alberta with hundreds of beds and more than a thousand employees.
