Two members of the Calgary Police Service are facing charges in unrelated incidents and have been placed on paid leave while the service sorts out their assignments.

An officer was arrested by RCMP on Thursday in connection to a domestic conflict that happened in a neighbouring community while they were off-duty.

The officer, who has been with the service for four years, was charged with assault.

To protect the victim’s identity, no further details are being released about the offence.

Later that same evening, RCMP in High River pulled over another off-duty officer and they were arrested for impaired driving.

Officials say the officer has been with Calgary police for 16 years and has not been formally charged.

The officer has yet to go before a justice of the peace and their identity will be released once formal charges are laid.

Calgary police say both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave until officials can find assignments for them while they face the charges.

Officials say the officers will be provided with support from the service during the court process and that details of the incidents are being released in the interests of public transparency.
