A man convicted in the Bolsa Restaurant murders has admitted his guilt and is now working with the prosecution in exchange for a reduced sentence.

Michael Roberto and Nathan Zuccherato were both convicted of three counts of first-degree murder in the New Year’s Day murders, but in June a new trial was ordered after new evidence was brought forward.

Aaron Bendle and Sanjeev Mann were killed in the gangland shooting at the restaurant along with innocent bystander Keni Su’a.

Roberto told police he was no longer affiliated with gang life and asked for a deal in exchange for information.

On Thursday, he admitted he was involved in the murders and reached a deal with the prosecution to help in the investigation in exchange for partial immunity, a lesser charge, and credit for time served.

The Crown says it was like making “a deal with the devil” and said there was little choice as Roberto was not prepared to cooperate if it meant he would have to plead to first-degree murder.

Roberto agree to plead guilty to a criminal organization charge and an agree sentence of 16 years was reached between the defence and Crown.

The plea bargain means, Roberto will be eligible for parole in as little as two years and seven months.
