Police have now arrested and charged two people in connection with a series of robberies in Calgary where the suspects allegedly threatened staff with knives.

On March 2, police were called to a shopping centre in the 3800 block of Marlborough Drive N.E. for reports of a man shoplifting from two establishments. Police attended but did not locate the suspect.

Later on that same day, police were notified that the suspect had been spotted again, this time in the 900 block of 36 Street N.E. He entered a restaurant, produced a knife, and threatened the staff.

He was given an undisclosed amount of money, and fled the area.

Police managed to track the suspect down and arrest him.

Brandon Britton Hansle, 20, of Calgary, has been charged with:

  • three counts of theft under $5,000
  • one count each of robbery
  • wearing a mask with the intent to commit an offence
  • being unlawfully at large in connection

A second suspect has also been charged in a series of similar incidents on March 5 in southwest Calgary.

At about 1:20 a.m., a woman entered a convenience store in the 4600 block of Bow Trail S.W., produced a knife, and demanded cash.

The same suspect is believed to have robbed two other stores later that morning, one in the 4600 block of Bow Trail S.W. and the other in the 2900 block of 17 Avenue S.W.

Police soon located the suspect at a fourth convenience store, attempting to exchange coins for bills. She was arrested without incident.

Cindy Jean Memnock, 34, of T'suu T'ina, Alberta, was charged in connection with the robberies:

  • three counts of robbery
  • three counts of wearing a mask with the intent to commit an offence
  • three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • two counts of breaching a court order
  • one count of theft under $5,000
  • one count of theft of a motor vehicle
  • one count of obstruction of justice
