The homicide unit has been called to an apartment in Bankview after a body was found inside.

At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, a person rang the doorbell at the firehall on 10 Avenue S.W. to say that he thought his roommate was dead.

A firefighter drove the man to a building in the 1800 block of 17 Street S.W. where it was confirmed that the body of a man was in one of the apartments, and police were called to the scene.

An injured man was also found outside the building but his injuries were minor.

A man who lives in the building but who wants to remain anonymous said there are 12 to 16 people living in the building which used to be rough but has improved recently.

“It’s subsidized housing to help people get off the street, and so far it’s been pretty quiet and there hasn’t been really nothing happening this last month, people do drink in the building but they are not running around causing any problems, but because it is subsidized housing, people off the street, they still have their addictions and it’s pretty hard for people to get off their addictions,” he said.

Police are calling the death undetermined at this time. The roadway was closed for a few hours while officers investigated but has now re-opened.
