One person is dead and two others have been injured in a stabbing incident at a Calgary business on Centre Street and 16 Avenue N.

Emergency crews were called to a medical clinic in the Central Landmark building at about 2:35 p.m. and police say someone walked in armed with a knife.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“All three individuals were known to each other,” said CPS Insp. Dean LaGrange. “It is domestic in nature.”

A injured woman was taken to hospital and another person was treated at the scene and taken into custody.

“Her wounds are superficial at this point, I’m unclear if it’s from the knife or because of a fight,” said LaGrange. “I believe the target was the deceased individual.”

Emma Wong works in the building and says she knew something bad had happened.

“We heard a lot of commotion but it didn’t really phase me because there have been, over the years, a lot of commotion, but you just don’t think in your mind that someone is killing somebody else upstairs, you just don’t right? But when the commotion continued and you just feel what’s going on,” said Wong

Wong says she was asked to translate for one of the custodial workers in the building who was a witness to the incident.

“Through her mouth, her words, is that one of the receptionists that works at the massage parlour called the police, that she ran to the restaurant and asked for help because there was a lot of blood, so they all rushed in from the restaurant with table clothes and they were all on the floor trying to stop the blood,” she said.

Police contained the scene and closed the southbound lanes of Centre Street while they investigated.

“When officers arrived, they were there relatively quickly, and it was a very chaotic scene obviously, and the suspect was pointed out by numerous witnesses and he was taken into custody without incident,” said Insp. LaGrange. “He was calm and cooperative with us, didn’t put up a struggle.”

Investigators are interviewing a number of witnesses and are not releasing the name of the deceased as they are in the process of notifying next of kin.
