Police have arrested a 37-year-old Calgary man in connection with a series of sexual offences against a 14-year-old girl, and believe he could have more victims.
Satinderjit Mangat, who posed online as ‘Sam Pat’, was arrested and charged on January 15 following a joint investigations by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams and the Calgary Police Service..
Police believe he contacted a teenage girl in August of 2013 and then began a sexual relationship with her that lasted nearly a year.
The girl’s parents discovered the relationship in December and called police.
Mangat has been charged with:
- Sexual Assault
- Sexual Assault with a person under the age of 16
- Invitation to sexual touching
- Luring a child under the age of 16
- Luring a child under the age of 18
- Making child pornography
- Possession of child pornography
- Accessing child pornography
Police are concerned because men like Mangat prey on impressionable girls.
They fear there could be more victims.
“Men who do this are really good at grooming,” says Staff Sergeant John Guigon, of ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Team. “They are masters of manipulation. They can get impressionable young girls to trust them. They coerce themselves into their lives and they pretend they love them. They build up his trust to a point where a girl trusts them.”
Anyone who believes they may have been in contact with Mangat or suspect that their children may have are asked to call police.
