The snow started falling in Calgary on Friday morning and more flurries are possible for the Thanksgiving long weekend as a pacific low brings moisture over the mountains for the next few days.

Environment Canada says Calgary will see about 2 to 4 cm of snow on Friday, with temperatures reaching a high of plus one.

There is also a risk of freezing drizzle and fog patches could develop in the evening.

More precipitation is expected for Saturday and Sunday and temperatures will continue to hover just above the freezing mark.

Much of the precipitation is expected to melt before it hits the ground but some rural highways and ramps in the city are icy in spots.

RCMP in Airdrie say snow and high winds are creating hazardous conditions on highways and roads in the area and are advising drivers to use caution.

EMS officials say crews attended to 14 injury collisions in and around the city since 10:00 a.m.

They are reminding motorists to reduce speeds, leave extra time to get to destinations and to be aware of emergency and towing crews who are working at the side of the road.
