Grief overwhelmed many in Sparwood Friday as 3 of 8 avalanche victims were laid to rest.

The first service was a double funeral for father and son, 45-year-old Leonard Stier and 20-year-old Mike Stier.

Many of the mourners left the church and drove to a second service for 32-year-old Thomas Talarico.

Mourners had to line up to get in because the church was well over capacity.

Funeral and memorial services are planned or are in the works for the other five victims.

Another public memorial will be held this Sunday at the arena and thousands are expected to attend.

Officials are asking people not to drive to the event and to either walk or take a shuttle bus from designated parking lots.
