Oops-a-Dazy Rescue and Sanctuary Society, a non-profit organization which, according to its website, was ‘committed to rescuing stray, abandoned, neglected, and abused domestic and farm animals from Southern Alberta’, has had its animals seized by the SPCA.

The organization, run by volunteers, was the target of an SPCA investigation last week. It is not known what prompted the investigation but a veterinarian with the SPCA inspected the animals housed at Oops-a-Dazy’s facilities in Strathmore. The vet was concerned for the wellbeing of the animals and a decision was made to seize the 45 dogs and 20 cats.

“A vet attended the property with us during one of our inspections and based on the vets report we determined the animals needed to be removed from the property,” said Roland Lines, a representative of Alberta SPCA.

Oops-a-Day representatives may apply to have the animals returned following a quarantine period of 10 days, pending the result of the SPCA’s ongoing investigation.

Officials with the SPCA will not divulge if charges are being considered against the rescue organization.
