Calgary tourism says five major sporting events in the coming year could translate into tens of millions of dollars for the city.

The first sporting event is the Brier which will take place in March.

This summer, the city will welcome the World Water Ski Championships, an Ironman Triathalon 70.3 and the Canadian Women's Open.

The final major sporting event will be the Grey Cup in November.

Tourism officials say they are working hard to attract more visitors to the city and the sell is easier with so many major events.

The events are expected to translate into strong economic benefits for Calgary. Tourism officials say those benefits could add up to $90-mililon.
