Nearly four and a half months after a deliberately set fire destroyed a classroom at Willow Park School, classes are set to resume in the fully repaired building.

On the morning of October 9, 2013, fire crews responded to the school located on Willow Park Drive S.E. after witnesses reported smoke billowing out of the building.

Firefighters encountered a classroom fully engulfed in flames and successfully extinguished the blaze but the room suffered significant smoke, water and fire damage.

Several of the school’s windows were broken and rocks were located within the school, leading investigators to believe the building had been vandalized and the fire was the result of arson.

No arrests have been made in connection to the fire.

Students of Willow Park School, from grades 5 - 9, have been attending class at the Viscount Bennett Centre while crews repaired the building. Classes will resume at the southeast school on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.
