Calgary and Edmonton’s Children’s Hospitals will be getting new equipment thanks to ATB’s teddy bear campaign.

When Payton Langenau was two years old, she caught a serious bacterial infection and her organs began to fail.

“When she was resuscitated, then it got real, it got real that she might not be leaving the hospital with us,” said Betina Fillion, Payton’s mother.

An extracorporeal life support machine took over for Payton's heart and lungs for 6 days, giving her time to heal.

Now community support means the Alberta Children's Hospitals will get more funding for ECLS.

“It really is the generosity of Albertans to take these hospitals from great to outstanding,” said Saifa Koonar, President and CEO, Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

ATB Financial's Teddy for a Toonie campaign in southern Alberta raised more than $300,000 for the ECLS program as well as cardio-respiratory monitors and a patient simulation program.
