Icy road conditions are believed to have contributed to an early Saturday morning crash in the city’s southeast.
Shortly before 3:00 a.m., emergency crews responded to a location along Bow Bottom Trail. S.E. near Diamond Dr. following reports of a crash. Responders located a car which had left the road and struck a retaining wall before coming to an abrupt stop after colliding with a light standard.
The driver, a man in his early twenties, suffered serious, potentially life threatening injuries and was unconscious. His passenger, a female teenager, suffered minor injuries in the single vehicle crash.
The two occupants of the car were assessed by EMS members and transported by ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre.
The southbound lanes of Bow Bottom Trail were closed for several hours but have reopened.
Police continue to investigate the crash. Poor road conditions are believed to have contributed to the collision.
