A Calgary court has ruled that a video interview with accused murderer Meredith Borowiec will be admitted into evidence at her trial.
Borowiec is charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of two of her newborn children.
She confessed in a video interview with a police officer in 2011 that she delivered a child in 2008 and admitted to wrapping the infant in a towel and trash bag before putting it in a dumpster.
During the interview Borowiec was quite emotional and appeared to be concerned about what kind of legal trouble she was in.
She was adamant with the officer that she did not know she was pregnant and said she delivered the baby in her bathroom.
She went on to say that the baby was not moving or crying and she thought he was dead so she panicked and put him out with the household garbage.
When pressed about why she didn't call for an ambulance she said "I guess I just wanted it to go away.
The defence argued that Borowiec’s charter rights were violated but the judge disagreed and on Tuesday ruled that the video would be admissible in court.
Borowiec is also accused of the attempted murder of a newborn that was found in a dumpster near her home in October 2010. She will stand trial on that charge in November.
That baby survived and an investigation into her past was launched leading to the second-degree murder charges.
