Brian Jean, the leader of the Wildrose Party and the MLA for Fort McMurray-Conklin, is calling on the provincial government and Fort McMurray's municipal government to hasten the processes for assisting the victims of the 2016 wildfire.

Speaking in Calgary on Thursday night during his series of town halls throughout the province, Jean says he's disheartened with the political red-tape his fellow Fort McMurrayites have encountered in the weeks following the fire that was sparked in early May.

"There’s 2,500 families that are currently out of homes. That is not acceptable," said Jean  "First of all, it’s not acceptable in my mind that the homes would burn in the first place, but it’s certainly not acceptable that we have not seen more than four or five basements truly be removed and ready for any kind of construction. We need to move forward as quickly as possible.”

Jean is calling on the NDP government and Fort McMurray council to speed up the processes for those in need.

"We're hoping to see some real action from (the governments) so that the people of Fort McMurray cannot be victims of this situation any further because, right now, they truly feel victimized on a continual basis."

Despite the fact his hometown has faced both a massive wildfire and recent flooding, Jean does not waver on his belief that Fort McMurray will rise again.

"We are resilient and we will rebuild. We will make it better than ever."
