Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) employees at the Calgary International Airport have returned to their postings following a temporary work refusal based in concerns over security concerns.

CBSA Communications Officer for the Prairie Region, Lisa White, confirms the work refusal, which began Thursday night, was related, in part, to the fact CBSA officers are not armed at airport terminal buildings.

The CBSA is not required to arm its officers at any airport, and the Calgary Police Service will provide an armed response should an issue arise at the Calgary International Airport.

An investigation, conducted by a Labour Officer with Employee and Social Development Canada, into the work refusal, determined the agents are in ‘no danger’. The officers returned to work on Friday afternoon.

White adds CBSA officers are provided with the necessary training and tools to safely perform their duties and the health and safety of CBSA employees and members of the public is of paramount importance to the organization.
