The Calgary Zoo is thrilled about its latest animal addition.

A female giraffe calf was born at the zoo on Tuesday at around 4:30 p.m.

Staff members say the calf is the second one to be born to Carrie, and both mother and baby are doing well.

The timing of the birth was perfect because giraffe keepers and veterinary staff were able to watch the birth happen.

This is the second time a baby giraffe has been born at the zoo in the past two years.  On November 15, 2006, baby Richard was born to Mardi.

The addition of the latest arrival means that Calgary Zoo now has five giraffes in its African Savannah exhibit.

A name for the baby giraffe has not been chosen yet.
