A 17-year-old from Airdrie is set to appear in court after a member of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit clocked the vehicle travelling at an alleged speed of 182 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Wednesday.

According to police, an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Range Rd 11 (8 St extension) between Airdrie and Balzac, when a newer model Hyundai Genesis approached at a high rate of speed. The officer collected a speed reading of 182 km/h.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old resident of Airdrie, was issued a mandatory court appearance for traffic court. The teen had been travelling with his girlfriend at the time of the offence.

Corporal Darrin Turnbull of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit says the speeding infraction occurred on a heavily travelled, narrow stretch of road.
