Police tape surrounds a northeast home following an afternoon fire.

According to Calgary Fire Department officials, at approximately 3:45 p.m., crews responded to a home in the 400 block of 78 Ave N.E. following reports of a fire.

On arrival, firefighters located smoke emanating from the residence. Crews launched an attack and the blaze was contained.

Initial fire crew reports indicate the fire originated in the basement of the home but an investigation into the cause is underway.

At least one person was inside the home at the time of the fire but they managed to leave the building and call 911. No injuries have been reported.

Fire crews remain on the scene to ensure hotspots do not reignite.The extent of the fire and smoke damage to the building has not been released.

The Arson Unit has been deployed to the scene and are investigating.
