Mountainous sections of major highways in British Columbia and Alberta have been closed due to the significant risk of avalanche and ongoing avalanche control.

According to Drive BC, the Trans-Canada Highway has been closed in both directions in the following areas:

  • Revelstoke to Golden (estimated time for reopening 8:00 p.m. MDT)
  • Golden to 18km east of Golden (estimated time for reopening 8:00 p.m. MDT)

The highway has reopened in Yoho National Park.

In Alberta, Highway 93 has been closed between the Castle Mountain Junction and the British Columbia border due to a high risk of avalanche. The highway is expected to reopen on Monday, March 10, 2014
