A Calgary man has won a $40M lottery jackpot and says he's going to give it all away.

Tom Crist claimed his big prize from the May 3rd LOTTO MAX draw and says he'd rather do something good with the money.

Crist plays the lotto by subscription and didn’t even know he had won.

“I was in Palm Springs golfing and I got the call and you know what, I never thought much about it after that, it was like, you're speechless but I honestly didn’t really think about it much and ever since May I haven’t really thought about much other than someday I gotta deal with it right?” said Crist.

He lost his wife to cancer last year and plans to give some of the money away to cancer related charities and the rest to other organizations.

The win is the largest lotto prize ever claimed in Calgary.
