Concern over recent global events has prompted the CBE to ask its schools to postpone planning for upcoming international trips until it can gather feedback and make a final decision.

The Calgary Board of Education posted the travel bulletin on its website on Thursday and says the safety of students and staff is a priority.

“As a system we have rigorous processes around travel. Recent global events have caused us to take time to reflect on trips outside of Canada. For now any schools planning international trips have been asked to pause trip planning activities. This means that schools are not be making any immediate decisions about trips, including cashing any cheques or collecting any fees.”

The board says it needs to take time to make “thoughtful and informed decisions’ and that it will be gathering opinions from students, parents and staff so it can make a decision on international trips for the rest of the school year.

The CBE says parent and students who participate in the trips have been invited to meetings and have also been provided with an online survey to share their ideas.
