A 45-year-old man faces a charge of manslaughter after the body of his girlfriend was found in the basement of a northeast rooming house.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Whitmire Bay Northeast following reports a body had been located in the basement of the home.

Police have identified the deceased as Janel Squirrel, a 26-year-old Calgarian after an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday. The cause of death has not been released.

Squirrel's boyfriend, 45-year-old Leo Harry Pantherbone, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with Squirrel's death. Squirrel did not live with Pantherbone.

“There is no reported history of domestic violence between this specific couple,” said Calgary Police Service Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm.

Pantherbone is scheduled to appear in court on November 12, 2015.
