Members of the Arson Unit are at the scene of a fire in Calgary’s Beltline where crews were called on Thursday night.

At about 10 p.m., fire crews were called to a building in the 300 block of 14 Avenue S.W. after smoke was seen pouring from the basement of one of the businesses.

Once firefighters got to the scene, they found a fire in the basement, which they brought under control quickly.

However, the lower floors of the building did suffer extensive smoke damage. The upper floors, where the businesses reside, were not affected and should be able to open as usual on Friday morning.

Officials say they’re working on determining the cause of the fire.

“There will be some smoke damage throughout the building. The majority of it was confined to the basement. We’ve got our investigators on scene and we’re gonna try to determine the cause of the fire,” said Paul Leblanc with the Calgary Fire Department.

No one was injured in the fire.
